The so-called indoor trees are mostly trees from tropical origins, that do not support low temperatures. We must place them indoors, always close to a source of natural light.

Characteristics

Evergreen bush. Liked for its small leaves and its plentiful purple flowers.


Location

Outside in Mediterranean climates during the whole year with lots of sun. In winter protect against freezing.


Watering

Abundant in summer and in moderation in winter.


Fertilization

From spring to autumn.

Re-potting

Every 2 years in spring.

Substrate

100% Akadama, or a mixture of Akadama with a 20% of volcanic earth.


Pruning and pinching

Pruning

Pruning is recommended in late winter. Responds very well to pruning.

Pinching

The whole year round. Cut back long branches. Buds again even from the trunk after a drastic pruning.

Wiring

Not used.


Curiosities

It’s a relative of Lagerstroemia. If you look at a thick trunk, you will see the same texture and after flaking off the bark also a smooth and shiny trunk.
