Outdoor bonsai

These are trees that, by nature, must be placed outside, ideal for balconies, gardens and terraces

Chamaecyparis

Family

Cupressaceae

Origin

Arboreal genus of Eastern North America (Florida and Mississippi) and Asia.

Chamaecyparis

Characteristics

Very elegant conifer with leaves very similar to those of the Cupressus genus, which is why it is known as false cypress.

Location

Given its lighting needs, we can assert that it is moderately demanding since it can be located in a place with semi-shade or with direct exposure to the sun, interchangeably.

Watering

It is necessary to let the surface layer of the substrate dry slightly between two watering. Avoid waterlogging. They prefer light and airy soils. In winter water thinly.
It doesn’t like the excess of lime, so it’s important to water with quality water.

Fertilization

From spring to mid-autumn with organic fertilizer or liquid NUTRIBONSAI from MISTRAL, applied every two weeks through irrigation water.

Re-potting

Every 3 or 4 years, in early spring.

Substrate

A mixt of 3 parts of Akadama, with 3 parts of Kanuma, and 4 parts of volcanic soil can be used; otherwise, if not available, Mistral Bonsai TERRABONSAI can also be used.
After transplanting it is convenient to water with a solution of VITABONSAI from Mistral Bonsai, to accelerate the recovery of the tree.

Pruning and pinching

Pruning

Flowering pruning to be done in Spring, after flowering.

Pinching

Throughout the growing season we can go lightly pinching, to get a denser crown.

Wiring

It can be wired throughout the year, but better in early fall.
