The name Podocarpus is derived from the Greek, podos, meaning “foot”, and karpos, meaning “fruit”

Evergreen bush. Related to Taxus. Belongs to the order of the conifers.


Location

Outside in Mediterranean climates during the whole year with lots of sun. In colder zones it is preferable to protect against the cold and frost.


Watering

Abundant in summer and moderated in winter.

Spring and autumn.

Every 3 to 5 years in spring.

Substrate

100% Akadama, or a mixture of Akadama with a 20% of volcanic earth.

Curiosities

The Podocarpus is a conifer from tropical and subtropical regions. It is also known by the name of buddhist’s pine. In the female podocarpus, the colours of the receptacle which supports the fruits are spectacular: they are from red to purple going through to oranges and violet.
