Cotoneaster franchetii. Bonsai 7 years. Franchet's cotoneaster or orange cotoneaster. Outdoor bonsai, typical from the Mediterranean. It is characterised both by its white or pink flowers and its small fruits. It needs both sun and cold to produce fruit.
Location: In Mediterranean climate it can be placed outdoors during the whole year. In colder climates it is convenient to protect it against frost.
Watering: Abundant in summer, moderate in winter.
Curiosities: There are more than 100 different species and many varieties of Cotoneaster. It is used in gardening for the formation of hedges and shrubs because of its good response to pruning, hardiness and the exuberance of its flowers and fruits of various colours, depending on the species.

Fertilisation
Spring to autumn. With Hiryo Gold organo mineral fertiliser or a fast-acting fertiliser such as Nutribonsai. Not during flowering.
Repotting
Every two years, at the beginning of spring. Afterwards, it is recommended to water with Mistral Bonsai's Vitabonsai invigorator to speed up the tree's recovery.
Soil
Terrabonsai. Special soil for bonsai, that will satisfy its needs of water and nutrients, stimulating the development of roots and its vigour in general. Other soils can also be used, such as a mixture of 60% Kiryuzuna + 40% Akadama, which enhances growth, although it will require more frequent watering.
Pruning
At the beginning of spring flowering.
Pinching
Cut at 2 leaves, when the shoot has 6 to 8 leaves.
Wiring
It can be done all year round.
