Malus sp. Bonsai 17 years. Crab Apple or Apple tree. Outdoor bonsai, typical from the Mediterranean. Very appreciated for its fruits, the apples, and their flowers in spring. It needs both sun and cold to produce fruit.
Location: Apple trees can be helped to fruit by pollinating them manually by applying pollen from a flower to the stigma.
Watering: Abundant in summer, moderate in winter. Take care not to wet the flowers. Avoid waterlogging.
Curiosities: It can adapt to all climates but prefers a sunny location all year round. In summer, it should be protected from the extreme midday sun. It resists frost, but it is better to protect it from temperatures below -2ºC.
Dimensions in centimetres approx. (width x depth x height): 44 x 53 x 65 cm.
Note: The shape and measurements of the bonsais are approximate. The pot is included on the dimensions. The colour and shape of the pot may vary from that of the photo. A bonsai is a living being, so the vegetative state of the plant changes according to the season. The images that appear are non-binding illustrative pictures.

From spring to autumn with Hiryo-Gold organo-mineral fertiliser or a fast acting fertiliser like Nutribonsai. Do not fertilise during flowering time.
Repotting
Every 2 years early spring. After repotting, it is recommended to water with Vitabonsai invigorator by Mistral Bonsai to help the tree to recover.
Substrate
Terrabonsai. Special soil for bonsai. It satisfies its water and nutrient needs, stimulating roots development and growth. You can also use other substrates, like a mixture of 80% Akadama + 20% Kiryuzuna or Pomice, although it will require more frequent watering.
Pruning
In spring, at the beginning of the blooming.
Pinching
When the branch has developed from 6 to 8 leaves, cut the leaves and leave only 2.
Wiring
Must be done in spring.
